Leeds & Reading Music Festivals, Leeds & Reading, UK

Located in Reading and Leeds Enland, this pair of annual music festivals take place simultaneously on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday of the August Bank holiday weekend.  The Reading Festival is held at Little John’s Farm on Richfield Avenue in central Reading, near the Caversham Bridge. The Leeds event is held at Bramham Park, near Wetherby, the grounds of a historic house.  The festival exhibits both pop and rock and boasts many camping opportunities creating a vibrant, energetic atmosphere.  

Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, Albuquerque, NM

This yearly festival is located in Albuquerque, New Mexico, during early October. The international balloon fiesta is a 9 day event with over 500 balloons participating each year.  It is the largest hot air balloon event in the world.  Just imagine the astonishment of traveling to this festival and witnessing all those hot air balloons in person!

Burning Man, Black Rock City, NV

This annual gathering takes place at Black Rock City, a temporary community set up in the Black Rock desert of Nevada.  The event is described as an experiment in community and art, influenced by 10 main principles, including “radical” inclusion, self-reliance and self-expression, as well as community cooperation, gifting and decommodification, and leaving no trace.  This event began in 1986 and is held from the last Sunday in August to the first Sunday in September.   Notorious around the world for being artsy, it is definitely a must see event for those who are ready to get their ‘weird’ on.  

Oktoberfest, Munich, Germany

The largest beer festival and one of the most famous international cultural events in the world, Oktoberfest is definitely a place to cross off your bucket list.  The festival first began as the marriage ceremony between Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese on October 12, 1810. All of the townspeople were invited to attend.  It has now transformed into one of the most famous international cultural events on the planet.  What was once a simple wedding celebration has now transformed into a 17 day festival in which 7 million people from around
the world participate in, consuming more than 6 million liters of Bavarian beer.  Oktoberfest officially begins on the second to last Saturday in September at noon when the mayor of Munich taps the first barrel at the Schottenhamel Tent, crying “O’zapft is” (It’s open). The festival concludes the first Sunday of October following German reunification day on October 5

Just for laughs was introduced in 1983 as a 2 day french language event.  By 1985 the festival had introduced english language events as well.  After 4 decades this even has grown to world recognition as the largest international comedy festival in the world and attracts visitors from all over.  Many of those in the audience are talent scouts, booking agents, producers, and managers from the entertainment industry. Full Moon Party, Koh Phangan, Thailand

The full moon party is arguably the largest all night beach party in the world.  Located at Hat Rin beach on the island of Koh Phangan, Thailand, the full moon party commences on the night of, before or after every full moon.  Thousands of tourists travel to Koh Phangan to attend this party throughout the year.  There are also many other parties that go on throughout the month on Koh Phangan but can vary from year to year(ie. half moon, jungle party, etc).  Besides during covid, the full moon party is the only party on the island that has stood the test of time.   The nearest major flight hub to Koh Phangan is in the wonderful city of Phuket.  In Phuket you’ll find breathtaking beaches and an abundance of activities and adventures to participate in.

The Masters, Augusta, Georgia, USA

One of the four major golf tournaments, The Masters first began in 1934 and is an invitational event held by the Augusta National Golf Club. The tournament has a number of traditions. Since 1949, a green jacket has been awarded to the champion, who must return it to the clubhouse one year after his victory, although it remains his personal property and is stored with other champions’ jackets in a specially designated cloakroom. Winners also have their names engraved on the actual silver Masters trophy.  If you love the sport of golf, this is definitely a must see event!  Just a couple hour drive away from Augusta is the city of Atlanta.  Host of the 1996 Summer Olympic games, Atlanta offers a wide variety of excursions.
